Students who are trying out for golf and have registered on Dragonfly and submitted all of their paperwork will be issued a tryout number. This number should be on the front and back of a white or gray shirt that can be seen from a distance.  This should be done prior to tryouts to help speed up the check in process on the first day of tryouts. Wednesday, September 6 from 4:30 to 6:00pm on the CHMS practice field – 1st and final cuts will be made at this time

Hello Players and Parents,

My name is Tim Breau, and I am your new Golf Coach at CHMS! I am currently a full-time Assistant Golf Professional at Ballantyne Country Club. The season is right around the corner, and I look forward to meeting all of you!

A little bit about myself and my background: I am originally from Rochester, New York and moved down to Charlotte in Early 2022. I played Lacrosse for 23 years and have been playing/coaching golf now for 15 years. Some of my hobbies include going on walks and hikes with my girlfriend and dog (Husky), playing any sport (Golf of course) and enjoying the outdoors such as hunting and fishing.

Our season is just around the corner and should be an awesome opportunity for all of you! Our first official day will be on August 28th from 4:30-6PM at CHMS. That’s where we will conduct the first day of tryouts. Our second day will be on September 5th, with the same type of format from 4:30-6PM with the first round of cuts being posted later that evening. On the last and final day, September 6th, I will bring around 13-16 kids to Ballantyne Country club for the final day of tryouts.

Throughout the 3 days of tryouts, players will be asked to complete multiple tasks. On the first and second days, it will be all about decision making, club choice, and skill. They will be asked to hit various targets from 25 yards up to 100 yards. We will have painted lines to help make the process easier for myself and the kids and for it to act more like a “Fairway.” Reminder, I will be taking into consideration not only skill, but decision-making abilities, coachability and body language after each shot. At the end of the day, golf is about being smart and getting the ball moving forward and in the right direction, not about who has the best swing and hitting long drives.

*Note* – The Charlotte area is densely populated with good, young golfers so there is a chance that even experienced golfers may not make the roster due to sheer competition. That being said, everybody has an equal chance and should approach tryouts with a great mindset looking to have fun.

For the day of tryouts, players should come prepared with the following:
1. Clubs
2. Water
3. Gloves (Not needed but recommended)
4. Approved DragonFly registration

Tees and Balls will be provided for tryouts.

After the completion of tryouts, players and parents should expect the following weekly schedule:

-Practices at Ballantyne Country Club on Tuesday’s/Thursday’s. BCC has become a very popular club this past year so the schedule could change on a weekly basis. I will let everyone know if that is the case.
-Home matches will be completed on Tuesday’s, during our available tee times. In that case, we will have a short game practice on Thursday.
-Away matches will be dictated by the opposing team and everyone will get that information a week prior.
