Students who are trying out for Cheerleading and have registered on Dragonfly and submitted all of their paperwork will be issued a tryout number. This number should be on the front a white shirt that can be seen from a distance.  This should be done prior to tryouts to help speed up the check in process on the first day of tryouts. TRYOUT NUMBERS – NOW POSTED!

Welcome to the 2023-24 Winter Cheerleading season at Community House Middle School. Thank you for your interest in trying out for the team. This season, tryouts will be held on Monday, November 13, Tuesday, November 14 and Wednesday, November 15, from 4:30-6:00 pm. Athletes trying out must be picked up from the gym lot promptly at 6:00 pm each day of tryouts. If needed, first cut will be made on Tuesday, November 14. On Wednesday, November 15, the athletes asked to return will demonstrate what they learned in front of a panel of judges and the final cut will be made. Following CHMS and CMS policies for tryouts and team selection, on the night of a cut, a list of athletes will be posted on the Cavaliers Cheerleading website inviting students to return to tryouts or have been invited onto the team. Once asked to join the team, parents/athletes have 24 hours to respond to me at temeial.williams@cms.k12.nc.us to accept the invitation.

During the three-day tryout, athletes will learn material that will consist of motion technique, jumps, a chant, a cheer, and a dance. They will also be given the opportunity to demonstrate any tumbling. They will be evaluated on their ability to perform the above material, along with showing spirit, exhibiting good sportsmanship, and a willingness to work hard.

Students trying out should come equipped with clean athletic sneakers – No FASHION SNEAKERS (converse, Air Force 1’s, Jordans, etc…), a white t-shirt with tryout number on the front (no logos), black shorts and white socks. Their hair should be pulled back away from the face and no accessories or jewelry should be worn. Students are expected to work hard during these three days and it is advisable to bring a water bottle with them to the tryouts.

If you are asked to join the team, practices will typically be held on non-game days, besides Fridays, from 4:30-6:00 in the auxiliary gym. The first practice will be on Monday, September 20th. Our first basketball game is Thursday, December 7th. Practices and games are mandatory.

Students asked to join the team will be asked to purchase a few required items including plain white cheer sneakers, maroon briefs, a hair tie, white socks, and a warm-up. The school will provide a cheer uniform. They will be expected to come prepared for each game with these items.
