PROVIDENCE WINS 4A BASEBALL TITLE; FIVE OTHERS QUALIFY
The Providence Panthers win the 4A Baseball Championships sweeping Pinecrest with a 3-1, 10-inning victory. Providence finished the year a perfect 34-0. The Panthers won the Southwestern 4A with a record of 12-0. They claimed their fourth Regional Championship and third State Championship all-time. It was their first State Championship since they won the 2015 4A Championship.

Myers Park had an impressive tournament winning over North Guilford, Ardrey Kell, and Reagan before falling to TC Roberson in the 4th Round.
Six schools represented CMS in the NCHSAA Baseball Championship Playoffs including Ardrey Kell, Hopewell, Hough, Myers Park, and Providence in 4A, and West Charlotte in 3A.
AK & SOUTH MECK ATHLETES TAKE HOME 4A GOLD
In 4A Men’s Track & Field championships, CMS athletes take home gold in three events and more.
Ardrey Kell junior Xavier Branker  captured 1st in the 110M & 300M Hurdles.
South Meck senior Graham Gutknecht finished 1st in the Pole Vault with a jump of 15-10.00.
In the 4X100 Relay the Olympic team  Chris Providence,  Sterling Greene, Malachi Morrison & Jemmott Duncan claim 2nd place with a finish of 41.62.
On the field, junior Zion McDuffie of Butler captures 2nd place in the High Jump with 6-04.00.
AK KNIGHTS BATTLE IN 4A CHAMPIONSHIP; HOUGH ADVANCES TO 3RD ROUND
The Ardrey Kell Knights appeared in the 4A Womens Soccer State Championship Match for the first time since 2011. The game was one for the record books with Ardrey Kell outshooting Cardinal Gibbons 31-7 in the match including 17-4 in shots on goal, but Cardinal Gibbons’ goalkeeper had 15 saves and two big PK stops to end AK’s journey 1-1 (4-2 PK).Â
Ardrey Kell finished the season 25-2-1. The Knights were 9-1-0 in the So Meck 4A where they won the league championship. The Knights won the program’s fourth Regional Championship. A 4A Women’s Soccer sportsmanship award was awarded to Ellie Hermann from Ardrey Kell.

The Hough Huskies advanced through three rounds, outscoring their post-season matches versus Reagan, Cox Mill, & TC Roberson, 13-2. Hough met fellow CMS opponent Ardrey Kell in the 4th round.
Eight CMS teams qualified for post-season play including: Ardrey Kell, Hopewell, Hough, Independence, Mallard Creek, Myers Park, Providence & South Meck.

GOLD & TOP HONORS FOR CMS TEAMS IN WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
West Mecklenburg’s Sanu Jallow won the 55 Meter Dash in 7.17 seconds before sprinting to a 1:15.24 victory in the 500 Meter Dash in the 3A Women’s Track & Field championships.

In the 4A Women’s Track & Field , Mallard Creek won 2nd place and Olympic placed 3rd in the team rankings
Harding University’s Akala Garrett stepped to the top of the podium in a pair of events, winning the top spot in both the 100 Meter Hurdles and the 300 Meter Hurdles. Garrett’s time of 41.42 seconds in the 300 Meter Hurdles was just one-hundredth of a second off of the all-time State Meet Record set in 2011.Â
CMS athletes dominated the Women’s Shotput with Ardrey Kell sophomore Tyler Glover throwing 42-01.50 for first place and Olympic senior Jada Brigman taking second with a throw of 39-04.50. Mallard Creek sophomore Macy Dulaney took 2nd place in the Discus Throw.
Butler junior Cheyla Scott won the High Jump and placed 2nd in the Long Jump.
Mallard Creek’s Kaylyn Brown took home a 4A NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award as well as top finishes in the 100M, 200M, 400M and4X400M relay.
FOURTEEN CMS ATHLETES PLAY IN 4A GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Fourteen CMS golfers qualified to play in the 4A Men’s Golf State Championship. The 2-day tournament was held in Pinehurst, NC at Pinehurst CC (No. 8) on May 9-10, 2022.

Hough Men’s Tennis advances to the semi-finals in 4A Dual Team competition before falling to eventual champion, Marvin Ridge.  CMS was also represented in Dual Team championship play by Ardrey Kell, Myers Park, and Providence.

In the 4A Men’s Tennis Individual State Championships:
Doubles Draw, Jesus Espinoza & Jackson Davis of Hough defeated Ellis Klanduch & Connor Gay (Lake Norman) 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) advancing them to the championship round where they played Brayden Hakerem & Alex Higgins (Leesville Road) 6-2, 6-0. Â
Other CMS athletes competed including Grant Partridge & Roman Shirazyan of Providence, and Ben Moore & Jason Ratledge of Myers Park.
NCHSAA Doubles Bracket Results
In 4A Singles Draw, Ethan Boswell of South Meck advanced to the quarter finals before falling to eventual champion Oliver Narbut of East Chapel Hill. Two additional CMS athletes competed in 4A State single’s competition including Joaquin Garcia of Hough and Rohan Phukan of Ardrey Kell. Â

HOUGH & MYERS PARK SEE 3RD ROUND ACTION IN WOMEN’S LAX
In 4A Women’s Lacrosse, three CMS teams qualified for post-season play. Ardrey Kell, Hough, and Myers Park all won their first playoff games advancing to the second round. Hough and Myers Park both won their second games advancing to the third round where Hough fell to Weddington and Myers Park lost to eventual state champion, Cardinal Gibbons.
NINE CMS TEAM QUALIFY FOR 4A SOFTBALL
Nine teams represented CMS in the 4A Softball Championship playoffs including: Ardrey Kell, Butler, Hough, Independence, Mallard Creek, Myers Park, Olympic, Providence, and South Meck.
Providence fared best outscoring Page 15-1 in their first game, and shutting out AC Reynolds 5-0 in the second round. The Knights met Alexander Central in the 3rd round where their journey ended.
