Track and Field
Women's 4A Track & Field
At the 4A NCHSAA Women’s Track and Field Championship, Myers Park junior Mary Bonner Dalton ran the 3200 Meter in 10:08.64 to beat the old 4A meet record by nine seconds.Â

The Olympic 4×400 Meter Relay team captured gold with the quartet of 1) Journee Gordon 2) Janya Barnes 3) I’Ja Barnes 4) T’Sheylah Moore. This victory paired with several other Top 9 finishes helped Olympic finish 6th in the team standings.

Ardrey Kell junior, Tyler Glover won the Shot Put and added another Top 4 finish in the Discus Throw.
Men's 4A Track & Field
Mallard Creek finished 2nd at the 4A NCHSAA Men’s Track and Field Championship. Mallard Creek’s Curtis Clark, Benjamin Black, Jayden Lee, Christian Dixon and Darren Morrison combined to set new meet records in both the 4×100 and 4×200 Meter Relays to score 20 points for their team.
A Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Award was presented to Mallard Creek’s Christian Wheeler.

Ardrey Kell‘s Xavier Branker took home gold in the 300M Hurdles and 4th in the 100M Hurdles while teammate Andrew Davis captured silver in the Long Jump. These victories helped the Knights to a 6th place rank in the team standings.

Women's Lacrosse
At the NCHSAA 4A Women’s Lacrosse Tournament Myers Park scored 15 goals a game in their first three matches against South Meck, RJ Reynolds, and Marvin Ridge, advancing them to the Semi-finals where they fell to Charlotte Catholic 14-6.
The Ardrey Kell Women’s Lacrosse program had an impressive playoff win in the first round. AK was ranked #21 and upset the #12 seed Reagan High School 13-12 with the game winning goal being scored in the last 7 seconds of the game. The Knights were the only team in Round 1 to upset the higher seed in the East or West. Their success was further punctuated by the presence of a new head coach of the program for the first time in 10 years, only 6 returning varsity players, and all goalies being first time lacrosse players, not to mention first-time goalies!
Men's Golf
At the 2023 NCHSAA 4A Boys Golf State Championships hosted at Pinehurst No.8, Providence junior Colin Salema took second in the individual champions to Daniel McBrien in a playoff. Both players finished 36 holes at 4-under with Salema posting 69-71. Both players parred the first playoff hole, but McBrien followed up with a par on the second while Salema bogeyed. Â
Also notably representing CMS in the individual standings was Hough’s Jude Carper who finished T4 at one-over for the tournament.Â
Myers Park captured 6th place in the team standings, finishing +44 over Par +24 R1, +20 R2. Ardrey Kell grabbed the 7th place finish with a 2-day score of +52.Â
Baseball
In the 4A NCHSAA Baseball Tournament, several CMS teams went deep into the playoffs. Myers Park had victories over Hough 7-5, Weddington 3-1, and Cuthbertson 2-1 before meeting TC Roberson in the quarterfinals.Â
Hopewell and Providence both advanced to the third round, Hopewell beating Glenn 4-3 and South Caldwell 11-6 while Providence shut out Porter Ridge 3-0 and beat Alexander Central 3-2.Â
Softball
In the 4A NCHSAA Softball Tournament, CMS was well represented with nine teams qualifying to compete. Ardrey Kell went deepest into the playoffs, beating Butler 7-2 and AC Reynolds 8-4 before meeting Hickory in the 3rd Round.Â
Hough and South Meck both advanced with 1st Round shutouts, Hough outscoring Providence 2-0 and South Meck taking out Lake Norman 7-0.Â
Butler, Independence, Mallard Creek, Myers Park, North Meck and Providence all earned 1st Round games.Â

Men's Tennis
At the NCHSAA Men’s 4A Individual Tennis State Tournament, Jesus Espinosa and Jackson Davis from Hough advanced to the Championship match beating Lake Norman 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) in the Semifinal Round before falling to the Leesville Road duo, Brayden Hakerem and Alex Higgins in the Championships.Â

At the 4A Men’s Dual Team State Tournament, Providence came in with an unblemished 12-0 record. CMS teams Providence and Myers Park met in the 3rd Round with Providence advancing after a 5-3 win. Providence went on to beat Northwest Guilford 5-4 in the semi-finals before meeting Green Hope in the Championship Round.Â
Providence’s #3 Toby Stamps earned his team’s only point in the final round with a win against Vivek Indlamuri in a tiebreaker. Providence finished the season 16-1 Â
Women's Soccer
Ardrey Kell claimed their first 4A NCHSAA Women’s Soccer Championship in their fifth trip to the title game with a 3-2 win against the Ashley Screaming Eagles at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
On the way to the Championship, the Knights shut out Independence 9—0, Marvin Ridge 4-0, South Meck 1-0, and Weddington 7-0 while holding Hough and Chapel Hill to one goal each.
Ardrey Kell junior Ally Casey earned the MVP honors while the 4A Women’s Soccer Sportsmanship Award winner was Kristin Sullivan from AK.

Several other CMS teams had notable finishes.
Hough also went deep into the tournament with two shutouts in their first three games. The Huskies won over Hopewell 2-0, Cuthbertson 2-1, and Cox Mill 2-0 before coming up one goal short to eventual champions, Ardrey Kell in the 4th Round.
South Meck shut out Hickory and West Forsyth 2-0 before falling to Ardrey Kell on their way to the championship.
Providence won a 1st Round game versus Sun Valley 7-3 before meeting Lake Norman.
Mallard Creek, Myers Park, Independence, and Hopewell all made first round appearances.
