Hough defeated Millbrook 46-20 in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 8A dual-team wrestling state championship at Northwest Guilford High School on Tuesday evening.

Six different Hough wrestlers recorded falls in the win over Millbrook, including three in a row in the 106, 113, and 120-pound weight classes.

After Millbrook opened the meet with wins in the 215 and 285-pound weight classes, Hough’s Michael Santoro pinned Sam Driver at the 1:47 mark of the 106-pound bout to bring the Huskies within three points of the Wildcats. That win sparked a run, and Hough never trailed again.

Brandon Lefler pinned Andru Johnson at the 1:18 mark of the 113-pound bout, then Adrian Feliciano took just 19 seconds to get a fall against Reid Humphrey in the 120-pound weight class.

Hough’s Auggie Rahaim (132 pounds), Tyton Kostoff (144 pounds), and Amiri Mingo (165 pounds) also recorded falls against Millbrook.

Kostoff was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 8A championship after pinning Millbrook’s Worth Wilson in just 51 seconds in the 144-pound weight class. Before the match, Rahaim was named the NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award winner for Hough.

Conor Herbert (150 pounds) and Vincent Grack (157 pounds) both won one-point decisions for Hough, and Joey Ricci won a 12-3 major decision over Matthew Dobo in the 190-pound weight class.

The championship is the second in program history for Hough. The Huskies won the 2020 championship at the 4A level with a 33-31 win over Cardinal Gibbons.

Earlier in the day, Hough defeated Northwest Guilford 32-29 in the Western Regional Championship to advance to the state final. Millbrook beat Laney 55-24 in the Eastern Regional Championship.
