Luke Little, an East Mecklenburg High School alumnus, has recently been called up to pitch for the Chicago Cubs in the major leagues. This incredible accomplishment is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and the solid foundation he received during his time at CMS.
Little, a 23 year-old 6-foot-8 left handed pitcher, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth-Round of the 2020 MLB draft. He has been with the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, for the past month. Working his way up from the High-A affiliate to the Triple-A affiliate since being drafted the call-up to the majors came on September 6th, 2023. Since then he has played in 3 games with the Chicago Cubs in the MLB.
It’s worth noting that Little’s connection to East Mecklenburg runs deep, his older brother and sister, as well as both of his parents, Billie and Ec Little, have made significant contributions to our school community. Billie served as the assistant principal, while Ec was a dedicated PE teacher and athletic director (at East Meck). Their commitment to education and their support undoubtedly played a pivotal role in Little’s journey to success.
