Playoff preview

As the fall regular season roles on we look toward the playoffs and what that means for teams across the district. Below you will find teams to watch out for as the fall regular season comes to an end.

FOOTBALL

With football nearing the end of the season here are a few teams to watch as the playoffs get closer. 

 

Mallard Creek

The Mavericks sit at 8-2 overall with a 6-1 conference record. 

Last season the Mavericks finished with an overall record of 7-5 and a 5-2 conference record. 

They made it to the second round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Watagua. 

 

Hough

The Huskies sit at 9-1 overall with a 7-0 conference record. 

Last season the Huskies finished with an overall record of 11-2 and a 7-0 conference record. 

They made it to the third round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Grimsley.

 

Independence

The Patriots sit at 9-1 overall and a 65-1 conference record.

Last season the Patriots finished with an overall record of 11-4 and a 5-1 conference record. 

They made it to the semi-finals of the playoffs but fell on the road to Weddington. 

 

West Charlotte

The Lions sit at 7-2 overall and a 5-2 conference record.

Last season the Lions finished with an overall record of 9-4 and a 4-3 conference record. 

They made it to the third round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Crest. 

 

Palisades

The Pumas sit at 7-3 overall and a 5-1 conference record. 

Last season the Pumas finished with an overall record of 3-7 and a 2-3 conference record. 

They did not make the playoffs last season.

VOLLEYBALL

With volleyball at the end of the regular season here are some teams to look out for in the playoffs. 

 

Myers Park

The Mustangs finished the season at 20-8 overall and a 12-0 conference record.

They fell to Marvin Ridge in the third round of the state playoffs on Saturday, October 26th. 

Last season the Mustangs finished with an overall record of 19-10 and a conference record of 9-1.

They made it to the third round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Reagan. 

 

Hough

The Huskies finished the season at 23-7 overall and a 14-0 conference record.

They fell to Northern Guilford in the second round of the state playoffs on Thursday, October 24th. 

Last season the Huskies finished with an overall record of 31-3 and a conference record of 14-0.

They made it to the third round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Cox Mill. 

 

Butler

The Bulldogs finished the season at 19-6 overall and a 11-1 conference record.

They fell to Myers Park in the second round of the state playoffs on Thursday, October 24th. 

Last season the Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 19-5 and a conference record of 11-1.

They made it to the first round of the playoffs but fell at home to Cuthbertson. 

 

Ardrey Kell

The Knights finished the season at 17-14 overall and a 10-2 conference record.

They fell to Weddington in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday, October 22nd. 

Last season the Knights finished with an overall record of 22-10 and a conference record of 8-2.

They made it to the second round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Watauga. 

 

Independence

The Patriots finished the season at 20-8 overall and a 8-4 conference record.

They fell to West Forsyth in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday, October 22nd. 

Last season the Patriots finished with an overall record of 11-11 and a conference record of 7-5.

They made it to the first round of the playoffs but fell on the road to Reagan.

MEN'S SOCCER

With men’s soccer nearing the end of the season here are a few teams to watch as the playoffs get closer.

 

Myers Park

The Mustangs sit at 16-0-2 overall and a 11-0-1 conference record.

Last season the Mustangs finished with an overall record of 10-2-7 and a conference record of 7-1-2.

They made it to the first round of the playoffs but fell at home to Northwest Guilford.

 

Ardrey Kell

The Knights sit at 16-2-5 overall and a 9-1-2 conference record.

Last season the Knights finished with an overall record of 19-3-5 and a conference record of 8-0-2.

They made it to the fourth round of the playoffs but fell at home to South Mecklenburg.

 

Garinger

The Wildcats sit at 18-4-1 overall and a 11-1 conference record.

Last season the Wildcats finished with an overall record of 19-3-2 and a conference record of 10-1-1.

They made it to the first round of the playoffs but fell at home to Hough.

 

South Mecklenburg

The Sabres sit at 13-6-4 overall and a 7-4-1 conference record.

Last season the Sabres finished with an overall record of 17-6-3 and a conference record of 6-2-2.

They made it to the championship round of the playoffs where they defeated Apex Friendship for the 4A State Title.

 

Providence

The Panthers sit at 15-7-1 overall and a 9-3 conference record.

Last season the Panthers finished with an overall record of 9-10-3 and a conference record of 8-3-1.

They made it to the championship round of the playoffs but fell on the road to West Forsyth.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Golfer Elizabeth Rudisill Caps Off Career As 4A NCHSAA Runner-Up

Elizabeth Rudisill, a senior, has capped off her career as a Myers Park Golfer with her second consecutive 2nd place finish at the 4A NCHSAA Women’s Golf Championship also winning the 2022 4A NCHSAA Women’s Golf Championship.

Rudisil shot 74 in round 1 on Monday October 28th and 67 in round 2 on Tuesday October 29th which was the only under-par round of the championship. Champion Leah Edwards of Northwest Guilford only beat Rudisil by 1 stroke; 141 to 140 overall.

Rudisill has committed to play golf at Vanderbilt University in the fall.
