Ballantyne Ridge’s Juliana Castellanos Trujillo captured the 7A singles state championship for the second consecutive season, while Myers Park’s Lila Cheatwood finished as the 8A singles runner-up to lead Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools at the 2026 N.C. High School Athletic Association individual girls tennis state championships.
Castellanos Trujillo dominated the 7A singles bracket, dropping just one game across three matches on her way to the state title.
The Ballantyne Ridge standout defeated Ayana Govind of Cuthbertson, 6-0, 6-1, in Saturday’s championship match at Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh.
Castellanos Trujillo opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over New Hanover’s Virginia Breeden in the quarterfinals. She followed with another 6-0, 6-0 win over Holly Springs’ Kayla Galik in the semifinals to secure her spot in the championship.
Her victory highlighted a strong weekend for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, which had two athletes reach state championship matches in the 7A and 8A classifications.
Myers Park’s Cheatwood reaches 8A championship
After winning the 8A doubles championship last fall, Myers Park’s Lila Cheatwood advanced to the singles championship match before falling to Hoggard’s Braelyn Smith Roberson, 6-3, 6-3.
Cheatwood earned her spot in the final with a pair of convincing victories during Friday’s opening rounds.
She defeated Hoggard’s Kenzie Le, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfinals before posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Apex Friendship’s Caralyn Izon in the semifinals.
Cheatwood’s championship appearance gave Myers Park a state runner-up finish in the state’s highest classification.
Myers Park also had a second singles qualifier in the 8A tournament. Annelise Conrad reached the quarterfinals, where she fell to eventual state champion Smith Roberson, 6-0, 6-0.
