Independence College Bound Student-Athletes
It’s not enough to be good at the sport, as a college bound STUDENT-athlete, you have to have good grades and test scores to be eligible to play at a college.
There are different divisions/levels of sport: NCAA (DIV I DIV II and DIV II), NAIA, JUCO; they all have different eligibility guidelines.
NCAA DIV I (See below for a snapshot of a few of the guidelines)
Uses a sliding scale to match test scores and core grade-point averages (GPA) GPA based on core classes only. Ex. 2.5 GPA requires 800 SAT score (Critical reading & math only) or 3.5 requires 420 SAT score (Critical reading & math only) Core GPA can’t be below a 2.000.
Requires 16 core classes for students enrolling after August 1, 2013
Beginning August 1, 2016, will require 10 core courses to be completed prior to seventh semester (senior year)
Register at The NCAA Eligibility Center and print the student athlete packet.
NCAA DIV II (See below for a snapshot of a few of the guidelines)
The Division II Core GPA requirement is 2.000
Requires a minimum SAT score of 820 or an ACT sum score of 68.

High school diploma and two out of three of these requirements
Achieve a minimum of 18 on ACT or 860 on the SAT
Achieve a minimum of OVERALL high school GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 Scale
Graduate in the top half of our high school class. (class rank on transcript)

Must have a high school diploma or GED
The institution will determine athletic eligibility of the student
